Improving Norcot Together

When we care for the place we live, we care for the people who live in it, including ourselves. A cleaner, safer, greener neighbourhood isn’t just good for the eye, it’s good for the heart, the mind, and the soul.

Alison Foster is the Labour Candidate for Reading Borough Council, Norcot Ward, May 2026

I’ve lived in Norcot for 23 years. I work in the NHS, my daughter goes to school here, and I care deeply about the health, wellbeing, and future of our community.

This campaign is about local pride and practical change. Research shows that safe, welcoming neighbourhoods boost our wellbeing, and I believe that improving our area improves our lives.

That’s why I’ve launched this site: to connect with residents, share updates, and give voice to the issues that matter. Together, we can shape a better Norcot, where we feel safe, supported, and proud of where we live, work and shop.

I’m focusing on four key areas raised by residents:

Safety, Streets, Spaces and Shops.

Safety

Antisocial behaviour, reckless ebike use, and speeding are putting people at risk. I’m calling for:

•  Targeted patrols and enforcement in hotspot areas

•  Clear rules and signage for ebike use

•  Speed reduction measures on key residential roads

Streets

Too many streets feel neglected. I’m campaigning for:

•  Regular weeding and verge maintenance

•  Tree planting to green our pavements

•  Smarter parking regulation to ease congestion and improve access

Spaces

Fly tipping and littering are spoiling our shared spaces. I’m pushing for:

•  A crackdown on repeat offenders

•  More bins and better signage

•  Flower planting and community clean-up days to restore pride

Shops

Meadway deserves investment, not just promises. Residents and shop owners are ready for change. I am

•  Hosting a public meeting with councillors on 6 November to demand action

•  Gathering feedback on what improvements matter most

•  Pressing for a clear timeline and funding commitment
